Since its inception in 1997, G Lounge broke down the preconceptions of what a gay bar should be. The wide semi-circular window facing onto 19th street set this bar apart from the dark, windowless gay bars of the city. The open atmosphere sent a message of transparency; that there was nothing to hide behind our doors and that we were proud to be part of the thriving Chelsea community. Within a few short years, this philosophy was mirrored by gay bars throughout the city and around the world — but none has been more popular than the original, G Lounge.
